How Does Combat Rifle Training Compare To The Range?

Shooting your rifle in a lane at the range is great, but it is not realistic and can cause the shooter to form extremely bad habits that can get them killed out on the street, or even in their own home. Now we realize that most gun owners will never be involved in a shooting incident, but it can happen at any moment, to any of us, so you need to train in a realistic manner.

And that is what combat rifle training is all about.

It’s not a day on the range.

How Does Combat Rifle Training Compare To The Range?

3 Big Differences.

Because at the range;

How Does Combat Rifle Training Compare To The Range - movementYou are stationary.

Sure, you can stand, or even sit, but you fire at that target standing (or sitting) still. Name a real life situation where that’s likely. You can’t. You are either moving forward, backward or laterally. But if you are standing still, chances are you will be in someone else’s sights. In combat rifle training you not only move, you shoot while running.

How Does Combat Rifle Training Compare To The Range - seeking cover and shootingThere is no need to take cover.

If you are seeking cover at a shooting range, something is wrong. Very wrong. But it’s true. You don’t seek cover when shooting at the range. In real life, it’s very likely the bad guy(s) has a weapon. That means you have to take cover. If you haven’t trained to shoot from cover, how can you expect to under extreme duress? In combat rifle training you will shoot from varying cover positions.

You are never injured.

How Does Combat Rifle Training Compare To The Range - this is shooting from cover!Shoot from your other hand? Unlikely at the range and never at a shooting match. Yet, in a real gunfight, you could be injured and you need suddenly need to shot with your weak hand. This is accomplished during combat training (not the injuries mind you – shooting with your weak hand).

There are only so many configurations you will find at a shooting range. A person can become like a trained pony at the circus and expect certain things when shooting their rifle, rather than reacting to the clear and present danger at hand.

No matter how you slice it, shooting solely at the range can cause bad habits to form that can get you killed.
